Program Notes:
I wrote the text of this piece about a year ago, a few weeks after the lockdowns and quarantines where put in place to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At that time the world seemed to be on fire. People dying in droves, natural disasters due to climate change, and a novel virus that seemed to be lurking around every corner.
Even though now we seem to be approaching a new semblance of improving normalcy, the world is forever changed and it’s difficult to forget the toll this isolation and melancholy that affected us humans, social creatures that we are.
This piece was thought of as a sort of monodrama that focuses on the toll, quarantine took on us and our unquenchable thirst to live, under any circumstances, unbearable though they may be. This score only treats what’s considered the first part of the text.
